Music Video Monday: Matthew Sweet
Matthew Sweet was appealing, I suppose, to emotional boys in the 90s: songs about wistful attraction, and his first video, for the title track “Girlfriend” was made of spliced scenes of a Japanese cartoon, of which I am too lazy to look up.
This album, Girlfriend, is easily one of the best albums of the 90s. In fact, a couple of years ago I saw a play based on the songs from this album. Kind of like Mamma Mia, but a play with two people about teenage boys finding love. It was adorable, maybe a little too angsty.
